为了识别并定量刺激诱导的ROS从有益作用转变为有害作用的阈值，中国科学院生物物理研究所陈畅课题组研究人员以秀丽隐杆线虫为模型，用不同浓度百草枯（PQ）诱导的氧化应激对线虫寿命的不同影响来描述和定量阈值。研究发现，存在一个PQ的节点浓度，低于这个浓度的PQ诱导产生的氧化应激能延长寿命，而超过这个浓度的PQ诱导产生的氧化应激对线虫的生存是有害的。
