“隐喻”（Metaphor）作为语义手段，早已是国内外语言学界的共识；“借代”(metonymy)亦然，但尚未引起普遍注意。本文就修辞中常见的十种借代模式，在英、汉词汇里提供例词，试图论证“借代”不可忽视的语义功能；同时对比英、汉借代词的形态差异和文化差异。
