法国国家图书馆是法国最大的图书馆，也是屈指可数的世界大型图书馆之一。它是由皇家图书馆发展起来的。新的法国国家图书馆在希拉克总统的主持下于1996年12月20日正式开馆，并被命名为密特朗图书馆。新馆馆址座落在巴黎城区东南塞纳河畔的道乐比阿克，这项工程总建造经费约80亿法郎，占地7.5公顷，建筑面积26万平方米。馆内书架总长度达358公里。

约旦国家图书馆最初国家文献中心成立于1975年，1977年它被国家文献与图书馆董事会代替，隶属于国家文化与青年部，旋国家文献与图书馆董事会又更名为图书馆与国家档案馆部。书刊70，000卷；现刊206种；手稿6部；学位论文10篇；政府文献427，700件；乐谱15件；缩微品3件；16/35mm电影胶卷5件；录音91件；录象带34件；计算机程序38件。
根据1990年10月3日的统一法令，1912在莱比锡成立的德意志图书馆、1947在法兰克福成立的德国图书馆与1970年成立的柏林德国音乐档案馆部合并为新的德国国家图书馆，馆长为克劳斯-迪特尔•莱曼教授。馆舍面积：莱比锡馆16，850平方米，法兰克福馆48，000平方米，总计64850平方米（不含柏林馆）。馆藏总量17，385，000余件。
